Aficionado -  an ardent devotee; fan; enthusiast (Thank you Merriam Webster).

When it comes to singing, this is how I view myself.  I am an enthusiast, not a budding artist.  I sing because it makes me happy.  I don't take lessons and classes to do anything other than learn how to use my voice, and to learn about jazz through experience.  I've come to a point where I keep getting feedback from instructors that basically say "I have nothing to teach you if you're not going to be performing".  Seriously?  No one is that good that they can't become better.  And if it's my money I'm spending to hone my voice, it's my choice to do so.  I'm not asking for permission to become a better singer.  I'm not asking for opportunity to go out and start gigging.  I'm not asking for encouragement, and I'm certainly not going to respond to strongarm tactics.  I'm not interested if you as my teacher understand my motives or not - all you have to do is know and respect them.  We all know where my boundaries are.  I have absolutely no interest in being pushed beyond them.

I'm thinking it's time to take a break from my jazz studies.  Sucks.  But if they have nothing to teach me.....

I'm kinda pissed about this.
